Health departments provide advice on preventing the spread of respiratory illness known as Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68)
September 17, 2014 As you may be aware from recent media coverage, several states in the Midwest reported clusters of a respiratory illness known as Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) affecting children and others over the last few weeks; more recently, cases of EV-D68 have been confirmed in New York. The Mayfield Central School District is providing information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New York State Department of Health (DOH) to help parents and community members become better informed about the illness and to help prevent the spread of the illness. Oct. 1, 2014 Mayfield Interim Superintendent A. Paul Scott released a District-wide Bulletin September 29, focused on important goal-focused work ahead at Mayfield CSD this school year. The bulletin identifies October as a key month for collective focus, prior to the onset of the customary holiday season. View the bulletin here (pdf).
Strong Start of Instructional Programs and Support Operations
September 17, 2014 Mayfield Interim Superintendent A. Paul Scott reports that "due to extensive preparations by many, and by solid public service by Mayfield CSD employees and volunteers, our September 3, 2014 first day of student transportation, academic engagement, cafeteria services and other fall semester activities for students experienced a strong start."
Opening day attendance was 915 students, P-12, which represents a tentative drop of 38 students from the most recent annual official enrollment report of October 2013, when 953 students were enrolled. There is a difference between attendance and enrollment. That is why New York State delays enrollment reporting until the month of October. Doing so affords school districts time to establish which new students have entered and which families may have moved into - or out of - the district since June 2014.
Shared Athletics Director to Start September 30
September 17, 2014 Mr. Brian Dunn was appointed by Canajoharie Central School District’s Board of Education as the shared athletics director for the 2014-2015 school year between Canajoharie CSD and Mayfield CSD. He will be a Canajoharie CSD employee, although his employment will be equally shared between our two school districts. Mr. Dunn brings successful experience in New York State as a public school physical education teacher. He also brings to his role successful experience as a coach in high school and college settings. Mr. Dunn’s first day at Mayfield CSD is Tuesday, September 30. This 2014-2015 school year partnership between our two school districts features an ‘every other day’ schedule for the athletics director.
Information Technology Network and Student Email Accounts
September 17, 2014 District policy 4526 sets forth specifics regarding access to the school district’s information technology network and acceptable use of the Internet. The school district reserves the right to access, review and monitor use of the network as well as the data that is stored or transmitted. Use of the email system for personal business is not authorized. There was some limited piloting of district-created individual student email accounts last school year. Also, the school district is aware that more and more students arrive at school already having their own personal or family email account. The Interim Superintendent of Schools is gathering facts and background information on this matter of individual student email accounts. Meanwhile, any further piloting of district-created individual student emails is ‘on hold’ at least for the start of this school year, until a suitable protocol or policy is put into place by the school board.

September 17, 2014 The State Education Department provided formal notice that Mr. A. A copy of the State-mandated notice to all residents of the school district is available [by clicking here].

September 17, 2014 Meal charge procedures in place for 2013-2014 will continue for 2014-2015. Board consideration of a revised and further updated meal charge procedure is slated to launch at the October regular meeting. The Interim Superintendent will advance a preliminary draft edition set of revised student meal charge procedures to administrators, parent-teacher organization presidents and various others.
